Amazon to scrap pay-per-click third-party Product Ads

Amazon is to shut down a service that allows sellers to place ads on its site, that when clicked on would redirect users to the third-parties’ own ecommerce sites.

The news of the closure of Amazon Product Ads, which was broken by Marketing Land, will see the pay-per-click advertising platform discontinued from the end of October.

The Amazon Product Ads service is still live, with the UK website for instance not informing users of its impending closure.

In an email sent to Amazon Product Ads advertisers, the online retailer said: “Effective October 31, 2015 we will be discontinuing Amazon Product Ads. While your ads will no longer be visible on Amazon as of that date, you may access your performance reports through December 31, 2015.

“We know this may be a disruption and we value your business, which is why we would like to recommend you explore these options.”

The email then encourages advertisers to sell their products via Sponsored Products, and also outlines a new advertising option called Amazon Text Ads that it is beta testing, but only in the US.
