Newbery, who was previously head of media at WPP’s Red Fuse Communications across Asia, will head up media across the APAC region, managing existing client relations and driving growth with a focus on ROI and programmatic media.

He also has experience leading the Emirates Airlines business at Starcom in Dubai, as well as senior positions at News International, UM and MediaCom in London.

“It’s great to be part of the team, and I look forward to the challenge of expanding our media operation, including the scaling of our programmatic services across APAC,” he commented.

Ko was previously director of digital investment at Mindshare NYC, leading client digital channel and tech investment, as well as the shift towards transparency and accountability through strict viewability. He also has experience leading MediaVest, UM, OMD and Zenith in major US cities.

“I am very excited to onboard. I am hoping to bring some of my experience to establish best practices that prepare our Hong Kong clients for the global and local digital media market place and help them to maximize ROI,” said Ko, who will be responsible for all media development and execution, plus overseeing media planning and buying from the Hong Kong office.

APAC chief executive Annette Male commented that the company is extremely grateful to Newbury for all the work he has done to establish our media capabilities within the region.

“Charlie and Sam will have a great springboard from which to further expand our media offering in Hong Kong and across APAC,” she said.

“Our clients are increasingly looking for media agency partners with strong expertise in programmatic and we are confident that having Charlie onboard will put their brands into the best hands.”

International chief media officer Paul Dalton added that DigitasLBi’s media offering has grown at a rapid pace in APAC.

“Having experts like Charlie and Sam on the team ensures we are even better equipped to help our clients develop media solutions which drive commercial advantage, now and in the future,” he said.

DigitasLBi appointed Emily Macdoald as international head of programmatic in a move to bolster its programmatic capabilities.
