GroupM acquires stake in Turkish business directComm Marketing Group

WPP’s GroupM has acquired a majority stake in Turkey-based direct marketing services company directComm Marketing Group.

According to WPP, DirectComm specialises in digital marketing, customer relationship management, events and social media.

Founded in 2000, the 70-strong agency’s clients include Türk Telekom, Siemens and Sony Mobile. Unaudited revenues 12 months to 31 December 2014 reached $6.5m.

It adds to WPP’s growing presence in Turkey, where it employs around 1,300 people and generates revenues of around $120m.

WPP hopes the acquisition will contribute towards the group’s stated ambition of reaching a point where 40- to 45% of its revenues will be derived from digital by 2020.

Separately, last week GroupM agency MediaCom announced plans to accelerate its growth across Latin America with the launch of its own operation in Uruguay.

MediaCom previously worked with a locally-based partner company but decided that now is “the correct moment” to set up its own structure.
