Initiative recruits Starcom strategist Kate Bower for global role

IPG Mediabrands agency Initiative has announced the recruitment of Kate Bower as global chief strategy officer to oversee the evolution of its client offerings, products and tools.

Former Unity and Naked strategist Bower, who most recently held the role of executive vice president, global and US strategy, at Starcom Mediavest Group and led the Samsung business, will be based in New York and report to Initiative global chief executive Jim Elms.

She replaces Sarah Ivey, who has reportedly left the agency to pursue other opportunities.

Elms commented: “I met [Bower] two and a half years ago and it was hire at first sight. The timing wasn’t exactly right then, but it is now. [Bower] is the embodiment of who we are and where we want to go at Initiative.

“Her background and work experience is incredibly diverse in both the locations where she’s worked as well as the client campaigns she’s shaped over the course of her career.

“We are poised for greatness, and with the addition of [Bower] we will achieve levels of success that will inspire and challenge our entire industry. Watch us.”

Bower added: “I am excited to join the Initiative and IPG Mediabrands family. The vision, commitment to collaboration and top talent is the ideal environment to spark great ideas that result in innovative platforms and products and most importantly, best-in-class thinking that will challenge what it means to do ‘media’ for clients in this newly empowered world.”
