Alex Altman

1 – Summarise yourself in three words.

“Committed, happy, amusing.”

2 – What made you want to pursue a career in media and marketing?

“I used to love watching adverts on TV and at the cinema and would think ‘that’s what I want to do when I grow up’.”

3 – Describe your ideal client.

“One who appreciates and values what we do, and is just as comfortable calling to say thank you as they are calling to challenge, build and (occasionally) moan.”

4 – Name your favourite ever campaign.

“The Guardian’s ‘Points of View’ (the Skinhead ad). I don’t read The Guardian but I remember being completely in awe of that commercial more than any other.”

5 – Which award win are you most proud of, and why?

“In 2009 MEC UK won Marketing, Campaign and Media Week Agency of the Year – so much hard work and team work had gone into reaching that point. It was the ultimate shared experience.”

6 – Who is the best industry speaker you have seen?

“Sir Bob Geldof – I’ve never seen anyone command and engage an audience the way he does.”

7 – Which is your favourite social media platform, and why?

“Twitter, it lets me believe I am a poet, a prophet and a comedian (in reality I am none of those.)”

“I’d probably ban ‘Big Data’ from our lexicon for a while and see what else we could come up with in its place”

8 – Where is your ideal meeting venue?

“Somewhere dimly lit and not too noisy, I have always preferred artificial to natural light.”

9 – What is your favourite restaurant?

“Villa Bianca, Hampstead. My wife and I (and our daughters) love it there.”

10 – What is hot in international media and marketing, and what is not?

“It’s all hot. International media is so exciting and full of opportunities. But something that is extra hot right now is content marketing. It offers huge possibilities for clients, as long as we can help them create content that’s authentic to the brand, has a point and is very clear on which consumer need it is meeting.

“The biggest ‘not hot’ it to ensure we avoid commoditisation – both from a cost and from a strategic perspective. There are so many important nuances to what we provide to multi market clients and it is in everyone’s interest that is not lost.”

11 – Which industry buzzword would you ban?

“All industries have buzzwords, I’d probably ban ‘Big Data’ from our lexicon for a while and see what else we could come up with in its place.”

12 – Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

“Working and loving it. Ours is an amazing industry and I hope/expect I’ll still be fully involved in 10 years’ time.”

13 – Finally, who would play you in a movie of your life?

“Ideally someone tall, Jewish and with glasses – let me put in a call to Ben Stiller and see if he’s up for it!”
