Guide to Istanbul

Istanbul city image

Most convenient hotel

Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul, Four Seasons Istanbul at the Bosphorus or the Hôtel Les Ottomans

Best restaurant for a business lunch

The Develi is a very good Kebab restaurant that is perfect for a business lunch.

Best reason to get up early

The seaside areas are empty, it’s very pleasant to go for a jog or a walk or just watch the view or the sunrise on the Bosphorus. The air is cleaner and the city is quieter.

Best media hang out

Cihangir Street - There are loads of cafes and clubs and you will definitely run into media people somewhere.

Etiquette to be aware of

Turkish people are very friendly and very tactile. So if they hug you or try to kiss you it just a way of showing their respect and care for you. Touching and being physical is normal for Turkish people. Even guys kiss each other on both cheeks. It’s part of the Turkish culture.

What touristy thing should you do if you have the time?

Visit Galata Kulesi (Galata Tower) – it is at the end of Istıklal Street and is a great place to eat and look at the city, from very high! This is also a perfect choice for a business dinner.

Don't:

Buy fragrances from people on the street.
