Microsoft is reported to be in negotiations to buy mobile ad network InMobi for $2bn.

The rumours stem from InMobi’s native Bangalore, India, with several sources cited within the company. Microsoft has so far refused to comment publicly on the reports.

However, financial website Seeking Alpha has reported that “an announcement could come shortly”.

InMobi, which claims to reach more than a billion users per month, held similar talks in 2015 with both Google and Yahoo.

The proposed agreement is seen to come at odds to recent Microsoft deals with AppNexus and AOL which imply the tech giant is looking to reduce its share in the online advertising area.
