This is the first time Snapchat Discover has been localised in a non-English speaking country, and it has already acquired eight partners including Le Monde, Paris Match, Cosmopolitan and Vice.

Snapchat Discover, which launched in January 2015 and has 100 million global users, features channels of original content comprising photos, videos and long form content from the platform’s media partners, which include Comedy Central, CNN and Vice amongst many more in the US.

The Paris office is due to open in October according to a spokesperson of the company, with Warner Bros. Entertainment Group senior vice president for marketing data and innovation Emmanuel Durand joining as General Manager in France. Durand has also held senior positions for L’Oreal, Sony Music and Universal Music.

The spokesperson revealed that Snapchat has eight million daily active users in France, with content from the country regularly appearing in Live Stories and Snaps.

“Since January 2015, Discover has been a place for Snapchatters to explore Stories from expert editorial perspectives,” said Snapchat vice president of content Nick Bell. “Starting today, Snapchatters in France will for the first time have French content to explore on Discover.

“We’re delighted to have Le Monde, L’Equipe, Paris Match, Melty, Konbini, Vice, Cosmopolitan, and Tastemade as our partners, each bringing something unique to our growing audience in France.”

The spokesperson declined to comment on any further market expansions for Snapchat Discover.

In September 2016, Snapchat was forecast to hit $1bn ad revenues in 2017, generating over $367m worldwide in 2016.
