Spotify is planning to launch a new music artist across Asia – and potentially across the globe – according to the streaming service’s managing director for the region, Sunita Kaur.

Talking to M&M Global after speaking at last week’s Festival of Media Asia Pacific 2015 in Singapore, Kaur explained how Spotify has attempted to get to grips with the myriad of music scenes across Asia.

Over the coming three months, Spotify will attempt to launch its first artist in Asia in collaboration with a brand, which Kaur sees as a step-change for the company in the region.

“We’re incredibly excited about it. We will start by looking at bands trending underground in the indie scene, on Spotify as well as chatter on Facebook and Twitter, and then reach out to 10 different bands to see if they are willing to be a part of the programme,” she said.
