Welde, who joined Unilever in 1991, is taking on the post of global vice president of digital transformation. He will be replaced as regional vice president by Shanghai media director David Porter.

As well as being a well-known face in the industry, he is also on the board of Singapore and China based media gaming and advertising start-up Ksubaka, is chairman emeritus for Mobile Marketing Association Asia and regional vice president for the World Federation of Advertisers.

Earlier this year, Welde, the chair of the judges at this year’s Festival of Media Asia Pacific Awards, spoke to M&M Global and offered his predictions for marketing in the APAC region.

He also discussed his feeling that mobile is being “under-leveraged” by brands as a communications tool: ““Mobile now occupies centre-stage for consumers and thus for marketers. It remains a relatively under-leveraged medium despite fast growth in spends and interest.

“It presents enormous opportunities – to be innovative, to break through the clutter, to harness the power of location, to drive agile and responsive marketing, to seize key moments – in short, tremendous opportunity to leverage a multi-faceted medium.”
