Vogue China has recruited Mario Testino to photograph 10 of China’s most famous female celebrities in the style of Hollywood’s ‘Golden Age’, with the image gracing the cover of its 10th anniversary issue.

The cover features an array of Chinese actresses, models and singers, with two different versions available. The 10th anniversary [September] issue of Vogue China goes on sale at newsstands from 10 August.

Vogue China, which said that the cover marked the first time that the 10 women had been photographed together, described the women as “iconic”, “beautiful, stylish, but at the same time are also people of achievement who have always maintained a positive outlook on life”.

Angelica Cheung, Vogue China’s editorial director, said: “The past 10 years have been a very successful period for China and Vogue China, and we wanted this anniversary to be a real celebration of all of our achievements.

“Having worked closely together with Mario Testino over the past few years, he has always shown a keen curiosity and fascination with the glamour of these Chinese celebrities. It made us think about the Golden Age of Hollywood, and we eventually came up with the idea to pay homage to the incredible style of that period, but with a modern touch.”

The women on the front cover include actresses Li Bing, Zhang Ziyi, Zhou Xun; actress and supermodel Du Juan; singer Chris Lee; and actress and director Vicki Zhao.

The Chinese edition of Vogue made its debut in China in 2005, and is published by Condé Nast in partnership with China Pictorial.
