VW appoints Kamal Basu as head of marketing for India

Volkswagen (VW) has appointed Kamal Basu as head of marketing and PR for its Indian passenger cars operation.

Basu, previously head of marketing for Skoda Auto India, will take up the post at VW’s India business, Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited.

Prior to joining Skoda in 2012, Basu has held a number of senior roles with ad agencies in India, including RK Swamy BBDO, Rediffusion Y&R and with Saatchi & Saatchi.

Michael Mayer, director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars in India, said: “We are pleased to welcome Kamal on board here at Volkswagen India.

“Kamal is a seasoned marketing professional and I’m sure he will be a strong and valuable addition to our team. He will play a key role in further developing the strengths of the Volkswagen brand in India.”

After years of rapid growth, the Indian car market has struggled of late, with new vehicle sales in 2014 falling below 2010 figures, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Last year, VW Group extended its 16-year relationship with MediaCom Worldwide to cover more than 30 markets across the globe. The agency has handled VW’s media in India since 2007.
