The announcement was made at WFA’s annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of the association’s Global Marketer Week.

Mundipharma head of consumer healthcare for Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, Sameer Desai, has been made regional vice president for APAC, and Danone chief marketing officer for Africa, Achieng Butler, has been named regional vice president for Africa, both serving one-year renewable terms to raise profile over the respective regions.

Desai replaces Unilever regional vice president Rahul Welde, the chair of the judges for this year’s Festival of Media Asia Awards, who spoke to M&M Global earlier this week .

They will work closely with the existing management team, as well as RBS chief marketing officer David Wheldon, who is starting his second year as president, and deputy president and Mars vice president of public affairs Matthias Berninger.

“We are delighted to have two such dynamic individuals joining the WFA team,” said WFA chief executive officer Stephan Loerke. “One of the main strengths of our organisation is the way that so many senior, knowledgeable executives are willing to share their time and insights with their peers to tackle the many challenges that marketers face in the digital age.”

This news comes alongside WFA working to reinforce its executive committee in an attempt to assist marketers and public affairs executives in becoming more effective and efficient, whilst helping brand owners protect and future-proof their license to operate.
