WPP Digital chief Mark Read takes Wunderman CEO post

WPP digital agency network Wunderman has appointed Mark Read as global chief executive, with current boss Daniel Morel to take up the post of non-executive chairman.

Read will move over from his position as CEO of WPP Digital, which he has held for nearly a decade. He will continue in his WPP Digital role, but will step down from WPP’s board.

After first joining WPP in 1989, Read held roles at Booz & Company and WebRewards, before rejoining the company in 2002 as director of strategy.

“Under [Morel’s] leadership, Wunderman has become a global powerhouse that is consistently ranked among the world’s top digital agencies. After 14 highly successful years, he has decided it is the right time to pass the torch,” said WPP chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell.

“As CEO of WPP Digital, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge in digital technology and its application to marketing services, as well as strong links with our new media partners.”

Commenting on his new role, Read added: “Wunderman is extremely well-positioned to help clients succeed in a marketing world being reshaped by companies including Google, Facebook, Twitter and Tencent.

“It can bring clients a powerful combination of creativity, data and technology, allowing them to build much more personal connections with their customers and drive business results.”
