Yahoo has finally filled its top ad sales job, promoting former Amazon boss Lisa Utzschneider to the role of chief revenue officer.

Utzschneider, who joined as senior vice president, sales, Americas last year, effectively becomes the Yahoo’s first global ad sales head since former chief operating officer Henrique De Castro was fired early 2014.

Having managed Yahoo’s ad sales teams across North and Latin America since late last year, chief executive Marissa Mayer has become convinced that Utzschneider is the “right leader” to transform the company’s commercial performance.

“[Utzschneider’s] successful leadership of our Americas sales team and proven experience building global businesses will be invaluable as we continue on our path to growth and returning this iconic company to greatness,” said Mayer.

“Her deep knowledge of digital advertising and ability to maximise value for advertisers make Lisa the right leader for our sales efforts as we work to scale our business globally.”

Utzschneider added: “Since joining Yahoo, I have been impressed by the talented teams committed to driving innovation and growth, and I look forward to expanding our capabilities and relationships with advertisers on a global scale.”

Utzschneider previous led Amazon’s display advertising efforts as vice president of global advertising sales. She has also worked at Microsoft.
