PHD boosts ad tech expertise by hiring Google’s Ben Samuel

PHD has recruited Google’s Ben Samuel to the newly-created role of marketing technology director, as the agency looks to boost its ability to guide clients’ ad tech decisions.

Samuel, who joins from his position as head of platforms for agencies at Google, will be responsible for helping clients build out their marketing technology platforms, working closely with Omnicom’s data solutions arm Annalect.

He spent seven years at Google and, prior to that, a two-year stint as an account director at Doubleclick Australia.

Based in London, he will report to PHD’s worldwide strategy and planning director Mark Holden.

“Clients are increasing looking for guidance on how to navigate the ever more complicated world of media technology and how to stack those technologies together for best performance,” said Holden.

“In [Samuel] we have found someone who will make things as simple and accessible as possible to help clients grow and transform their business.”

Samuel added: “A few years ago media technology was not something high on marketing director’s agendas. In today’s programmatic and data driven world, with near constant evolution in the way digital is bought, it’s an ever more important consideration.

“These technologies – and more importantly how they are stacked together – can improve the efficiency of marketing investment.”
