Savitt will be responsible for STX’s global digital strategy with the aim of helping the studio – which recently released its first film, thriller The Gift starring Jason Bateman – to produce, market and distribute films, TV and digital content.

It has been speculated that Yahoo will feel the impact of Savitt’s loss, as she had recently taken on the head of media role, overseeing the launch of the company’s digital magazines and original video-streaming programming.

A Yahoo spokeswoman said: “We appreciate her contributions to Yahoo over the past three years and wish her well.”

Savitt has also been credited with leading Yahoo to acquire the critically-acclaimed series Community after its run was cancelled by NBC.

STX chief executive Robert Simmonds felt that Savitt’s experience in digital content creation was ‘unparalleled’ with keen insights into storytelling, establishing STX Digital as a new force in the entertainment industry.

This news follows the recent announcement that Mayer is expecting twin girls. She is expected to work up until the December due date, with little time away from the business.
